Qualifying Exam Petitioners

Ineligible students who wish to take the Oral Qualifying Examination are strongly encouraged to contact the Admissions Office (Packard 170) to discuss their circumstance.
A candidate must first complete at least two quarters of full-time study (excluding the summer) at Stanford and must have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 in graduate level technical courses at Stanford. He/she must then submit the following to the EE Admissions Office:

1) Complete the Quals petition form.  List faculty member(s) writing on your behalf; include their department.

2) A statement of justification.  Please include you Stanford ID number and email address on the statement.

3) A letter of support from at least one EE faculty member (defined as a member of the Academic Council). 

There is no deadline for this submission other than the regular deadline for the Qualifying Examination in late October (if submitting in October, please be sure your petition is in the Admissions Office by the end of the second week of October).  Please allow three weeks for a decision.
