Non-Degree Option (NDO) Coursework

The Stanford Center for Professional Development Non-Degree Option (NDO) allows working professionals in member companies the opportunity to enroll in Stanford courses. These students earn grades and academic credit without matriculating as regular Stanford graduate students. Courses are made available to NDO students exclusively via distance learning technologies.

Admission Procedure

In accordance with requirements of the Office of the Registrar, Non-Degree Option students must complete an application form and submit official transcripts. Information on applying may be found here:  http://scpd.stanford.edu.  Although applications are reviewed by the EE department, the Stanford Center for Professional Development handles all administrative processes.

A transcript from each school attended must be submitted. Transcripts should include grades through the last date of attendance and must show any degrees awarded. For admissions purposes, an official transcript, not a photocopied version, should be submitted.

Transcripts may be enclosed with the application and sent directly to the Stanford Center of Professional Development.

An application must be submitted each quarter.

NDO Eligibility

Enrollment as an NDO student requires your company to be a member of the Stanford Center for Professional Development. Review the membership section of the SCPD web site to learn if your company is currently a member or  how your company can become a member.  All membership inquiries must be addressed by SCPD.

Any student that has completed an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale) may apply for NDO status in the Electrical Engineering Department. Previously admitted NDO students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) with no more than one C, D, or NC to continue in the program.

Advising

For general academic advising and information regarding the recommended prerequisites for a course, NDO applicants/students should visit the EE Course Advisor's Web Site.  Contact information is also available here.

NDO and HCP

Performance in the NDO program will be considered in connection with regular (or HCP) graduate admissions if and only if the applicant indicates this on his/her graduate application and requests that NDO transcripts be sent to the department. NDO enrollment does not guarantee acceptance into the Honors Cooperative Program.

A maximum of 18 NDO units may be used toward the graduate degree.  These units must meet departmental degree requirements.
